DESCRIPTION
WNY Labor Today is where unions and their members can go to get the latest in positive news that involves organized labor and the working men and women they represent from across our region - from Niagara Falls to Buffalo to the Southern Tier. The overall mission of WNY Labor Today will be to focus in on the positive contributions organized labor is making across our many communities, ranging from the beneficial results brought about by labor-management groups to the many charitable and non-profit involvement unions and their members are intertwined with. It's also the goal of WNY Labor Today to educate the elected and business communities, as well as the general public, of the worth of working with organized labor in order to turn our region around, and what can be realized if all join and work together. As we all know, there's not been a great amount of opportunity for organized labor to get its side of the story out here in Western New York. Combine that with some radio talk show hosts who consistently fail to do their homework in getting both sides of the story, shamelessly pander to only one side and work hard to reinforce the stereotype that labor is to blame for everything that's gone wrong here in Western New York - from being stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the 33 (Must be the union's fault) to the grass growing faster than it should (I hafta cut my lawn again! Must be the union's fault.). Aren't we all tired of listening to those self-glorified personalities - who shill for anyone who'll provide them with food, foot care or a quick buck to say how great X, Y or Z is - blurt out when someone calls in to say something negative about labor unions, Well I don't know if that's true, but I guess we'll have to take your word for it. Unfortunately, you begin to understand that there's a big void out there. It's our hope WNY Labor Today will fill that void. On another note, WNY Labor Today is also the brother web publication of a new, local and improved political web site - NewWNYPolitics.com Through a working relationship with WNYLaborToday.com, NewWNYPolitics.com will also provide the region's many labor unions with an opportunity to tell their side of the story when it comes to providing a counterpoint not heard, seen or published anywhere else before - and not just in a shortened format in a Letters To The Editor section of your local newspaper. It's our hope unions across the region will begin to see the worth and benefit in WNY Labor Today and make the decision to not only spread the word among their individual members to visit our site, but link us to their existing union web sites and individually contribute with a flow of positive news from their unions and members. WNY Labor Today looks forward to working with organized labor across Western New York to not only provide a positive counterpoint to the current negativity regarding labor unions and their members, but work to make a real difference as we all continue to strive to make our region the best it can be now and in the years to come.
