AVERAGE RATING
*The SPCA does not receive any funding from the county, city, state, or federal governments. Our humane society does not receive tax dollars of any kind… we’re only able to assist the people and pets in need thanks to donations. *The SPCA cares for approximately 20,000 animals each year through programs that include adoptions; admissions; animal rescues; animal emergency transports; stray lost and found services; animal cruelty investigations and seizures; care for wildlife, reptiles, exotics, and farm animals; and much more. *From April 1, 2007 - April 30, 2008, 877 animals (or 13.6% of our total animal admissions for the same time period) were surrendered to the SPCA Serving ERIE County from NIAGARA County residents -- animals and people who needed our help because there was no other organization that would help them. *The SPCA cared for nearly 2,000 City of Buffalo stray animals in 2006, with no remuneration from the city. ADDITIONALLY that same year, the SPCA trasferred over 500 animals from the city to be placed for adoption at our shelter. In context, these city animals represented over 10% of the animals cared for by the SPCA, and we do it WITHOUT ANY CITY TAXPAYER DOLLARS. These numbers have increased over the last year. *The SPCA is a LOCAL HUMANE SOCIETY, not financially supported by, or a part of, any other local or national animal welfare group. We are NOT a branch of the ASPCA. *The SPCA has a large shelter in Tonawanda, a satellite shelter in Angola, a mobile adoption unit (Whisker Wag’n) and 19 off-site adoption locations. *The SPCA Serving Erie County is one of few humane societies in the country with an on-site surgical suite for animal sterilization, surgery, and overall care. The SPCA also voluntarily opens the surgical suite for community-wide, low-cost and/or feral cat animal neutering programs, in an effort to reduce overpopulation. |
